Where can I get the posi lube?? I went to some parts stores and didn't find it...
Ecklers has it:

I just get mine from the Chevrolet Dealer here, most will keep it in stock.

4 ounce bottle of posi additive.
Some say use one...some say use two bottles.
I used synthetic gear oil of which the additive is not needed but put a bottle in just in case.

A little trivia?
I've heard years ago GM posi fluid was whale oil and was better than today's version.

Chevy dealer. In fact, that's where I'm going this morning to get a bottle of posi lube and 2 qts of diff fluid! :yesnod:

I'm sticking with dino fluid until I feel like tearing the rear suspension apart to get at the diff cover to replace the leaky gasket.

Dunno if that's true about the whale oil but the GM stuff sure stinks though if it's bad and should've been changed a long time ago

I heard it was whale oil, matter of fact, I think I read it somewhere. Don't remember where though.

Well I did it at the mall and got stopped by the police. Made me get out of the car, searched me, asked me if I was on drugs!!!

Well... were you?
NO!!!!

The two cops said they could give me a reckless ticket. Geez. Deserted parking lot, no squealing tires, just going in figure 8's.

The shop owner who rebuilt my rear told me about the whale oil.He said today's GM posi stuff isn't as good but does the job.
He said he would buy all he could if he found a source.
He also said if iI should ever see the old stuff at a garage sale or such buy it.

Ecklers and others.
GM Dealer parts dept
Auto part stores carry a different brand posi fluid.
Some say it's the same as GM....some say it's different.

Unless you used synthetic fluid you need the posi additive.
Well - I used Mobil 1 synthetic differential fluid.. Does this mean that I don't need the additive???

What type of fluid did you use? When i changed mine a while back I refilled it with some nice Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil and two bottles of posi additive. Did you crack the differential seal or pump out the old fluid?

I can only speak of Amsoil synthetic rear oil.
I called Amsoil and was told there is no need for the posi additive but I could add it if I felt more comfortable by doing so.I added a bottle.
I imagine Mobil 1,Castrol,Redline etc. would be the same.

The fluid was Mobil 1 synthetic 75W90 differential fluid...

You always need the additive. It's GM's "fix"for chirping rattlijng rear ends. In the beginning the stuff wasn't added and there were a lot of complaints. The noise was tracked down to too agressive grabbing of the clutches and so they added the additive to allow some slippage. Without it your rear will almost always clunk, chirp whatever.
