So I ordered this Front End rebuild kit from VanSteel that was advertised as "all Moog". I guess I didn't read the fine print (it looks like they're having trouble sourcing Moog upper ball joints) because when I opened the packaging I was given two upper ball joints from QuickSteer. I did some quick searching and it looks like the K6034 is out of stock everywhere. I can order it from Summit, but I won't get it for like three weeks.
My question is, should I make a stink, return the QuickSteers and wait for the Moogs, or is it not going to make that big of a difference? Everything else is going to be Moog.
With my previous experience with Van Steel I personally would be inclined to trust their judgement on using an alternate part when the Moog part you ordered is out of stock and could be for a while. If Van Steel "trusts" the Quicksteer Upper Ball Joints then I would be comfortable in using them on my Corvette.
Van Steel has been one of my most trusted sources of parts, rebuilds and helpful advice for over 30 years and still I trust them and their judgement. They have rebuilt both my trailing arms, steering box and sold me numerous parts to upgrade the suspension on my C3 Corvette. None of the parts I have received from them has ever caused any problems or failed on my Corvettes.
A lot of folks order the parts to fix their Corvettes and some might be in need of the parts right away to get their Corvette back on the road again. If you have the time to wait then call them and offer to do that, the worst they could do is make you wait a while until the Moog part becomes available again. If your car is apart then you might want to reconsider.
I have never been anything but 100% Happy with my experiences with Van Steel and I believe in them.
Been around forever..quality I personally dont know
Isnt moog made overseas now like everything else?
heard they had 2 grades of parts like the balljoints...std, severe duty?
Fact or internet rumor?
Id guess unless youre running a road course or real rough roads/lotsa miles most would be ok.

Moog makes parts overseas AND in the US. I would know, I have parts from both
So, my choice is either wait 3 weeks or go ahead and start working on it now. I would start working on it now. The Quick Steer upper ball joint will be fine, IMHO.
Gonna be honest, I’m not familiar with Federal-Mogul, so you’ll have to spell it out for me. Sigforty, it sounds like you’re not a fan of them.
Quicksteer is the brand of Federal-Mogul that makes things you often find in part store brands, think Durlast, Napa, Masterpro, etc. Now Federal-Mogul owns both brands, but that does not mean they are made equal. I have not looked lately at the corvette ball joints, but at one time the Moog were all made in the USA. This is why the accounted for the extra price. What I would ask, is Van Steel charging a cheaper prices for the Quicksteer? If not, I would wait for the Moog. If they offer a discount because it is not Moog, You could consider using them to keep the project moving. Chances are they will last long enough for your use of the vehicle, unless you are racing it. You might want to also check Rockauto. I also hear the Mevotech are a decent joint. corvette. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...ll+joint,10070
I'd have to believe that if you actually had a problem with them, VanSteel would look after you. Now if you manage to wear them out... good for you and that's some impressive driving time you've managed to put in and I'm really, really, jealous
