Will I need to get under the car and loosen the tension on the cables or can I easily change the assembly inside the car,it looks fairly straight forward.
It's been a loooong time since I changed mine but I don't remember doing anything under the car. It's pretty straight forward but remember the hidden bolt for the center console is behind the middle storage compartment.
What year are we talking about? Followed by "why are you swapping it out?"
Although there should be very little actual tension on the cable and in theory you should be able to remove the bolts holding the parking brake handle to the floor and maybe pry the main cable end out of the hook, I can't believe you'ld ever manage to get the cable back into the mechanism again without unhooking it underneath and having a bunch of slack to work with
