Can anybody tell me what engine is in this? I am looking for a family member and they want to 454, but I don't know how to tell. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

That is a small block.
If your family member has this much info available from photos and cannot see that this is a small block, I'd really recommend a crash course in Automotive Basics 101.

Yup, like Greg said, it's a small block. 454 has wider valve covers, held on with 7 bolts VS 4 bolts for small blocks

the give aways are the valve covers like was mentioned. the exhaust tubes are touching in the center on the small blocks, the extra room between the engine and the fenders, the bypass hose on most big blocks from the center of the water bump at the top that 90's into the intake manifold, and the numbers on the block in the back which you cannot see easily while its in the car ....https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...big-block.html
from the attached thread

Everything is bigger.. intake, heads, exhaust manifolds, pan,,,,,.the heads weigh 80lbseach but feel like 100lbs when you try and get them off the motor

IF the hood on the Vette is smooth it has to be a small block where the big blocks have to have the bump up in the front like a small cowl induction look...all though the LT! uses the big block hood and those and the L88 hood are sold in the aftermarket so they will fit any small block car

No one has mentioned the pic of the engine specs. Looks like an LT1 to me if that's still the original motor.

With all the mods i hope not as a lot of stuff is missing and the console plate could just be added for the cool factor. If it is an LT1 really, then it would be worth quite a bit and hopefully all the missing pieces can be rounded up.....and its the original motor

No need to be snarky. We we’re here to help, no matter what experience level folks are at.

Hmmm?
Not being "snarky" at all, just realistic. But perhaps emotion doesn't show in a simple text.
O.P. is asking for a big block C3, posts a picture of a 1970 LT-1. Both of these would be considered pretty high end C3's by just about everyone here. A 1970 big block is one of only 4,400 in a short run model year, LT-1 less than 1,300, so both of these are going to be at the top of the money scale.
With the limited info the O.P. posted it's pretty clear they're out of their comfort zone. Console plate even shows cubic inch displacement of 350 so O.P. must not even be aware of the correct cubes for a big block. I would say the same to anyone asking about a 1975 L-48 automatic coupe if they were without the most basic knowledge regarding C3's. "Get educated before you buy".
A handful of cash, an unaware buyer, gee, what's the worst that could happen?

Wasn’t a 70 LT-1 370 hp? The L46 was 350/350. So he has a console tag that says L46, but overly-polished LT-1 style valve covers that could have come from anywhere. Intake appears to be aluminum, but could easily be aftermarket. The only answer we can give is small block.

Yep. 283 to 383. Most likely 350. If ur bud can’t tell a small from big block by that pic, tell him to get a C5 or C6. Too tall a learning curve to keep a 50 year old car alive, unless bottomless pockets.

LT1 and L46 used same aluminum valve covers. Really puzzling how LT1 came into this thread since nothing points to it.

Sorry, that was on me. I saw that pic of the performance plate on the console and made an assumption it could be an LT1. I wasn't familiar with the specs from 70, just thought an 11:1 compression would have to be LT1. And yes, I do realize that all the mods in the pics mean it's most likely NOT the original engine so the question would become moot. Just thought someone should point out to the OP that if that car had an OE special engine it should be left as-is rather than converting to big block as it sounded like they wanted from the first post. But, since the OP apparently hasn't come back I guess none of this really matters anyway.
