I rebuilt the top part of my engine in Sept. Since then I have only put about 250 miles on it. I had to add an entire quart of oil yesterday. I don't have an oil leak under the car so I'm not sure where its leaking at. Could it be from breaking in the engine or is that just too much?
I put in a new cam, valve springs, roller rockers, intake, carb, fuel pump, water pump and a few other small things.
You are probably sucking oil in through your intake. I think Paul79 has had this problem for quite a while, it will require the intake to be pulled and new gaskets installed.
Sometimes just retorqing the intake fixes this. I was consuming at 1 qt /250 miles and retorqed then it went to 1 qt /1500 miles. this is a much easier fix that redoing the gasket and well worth a try.
You won't believe how much that intake gasket squirms around when you torque the bolts. When I port matched mine,I laid a thin layer of RTV Black down on the head side of the intake gasket, then carefully placed the intake on and snugged the bolts, watching to be sure they stayed centered in the intake manifold bolt holes. The next day I pulled the intake to check the fit,and one side had slipped down. I pulled it off and baught another gasket, and did this again. Now I'm sure the gasket is in perfect alignment with the ports. I would have to agree that the oil consumtion is the intake gasket. Pull your plugs and check for oil fowling.

Re: Excessive oil consumption (paul79)
There is another way to do do it, you put a little silicon on the head surface of the gasket ( in the middle so it won't squish out )and carefully place the intake on and bolt it down but not too tight or put some kind of weight on it and leave it over night. Take it off in the morning and if the intake gasket is in the right place then you can torque the intake on with the confidence the silicon will hold the gasket gasket in place.
I have never done this however because I am too lazy to go thru all these steps, I am carefull that I palce the intake straight down and have not had a problem for years now :D
