I am considering replacing the scissors type regulator with a modern curved track regulator, that is cable driven and far simpler than the present set up. They come in a wide variety of sizes and styles. There are three types that are presently available: Scissors, Dual Track and Single Track. The dual track is used in modern Corvettes, but would be more difficult to fit to a C3 door. The Single Track would be easier to adapt. There is a space that is approx. 17" by 13" to mount this track. This could either replace the rear track or leave it where it is. An adapter would consist of two plates, one for vertical tilt adjustment and front to rear adjustment. A third plate behind would mount the glass to the plates.
PS: I used the search term "Power Window Mod" and went through 15 pages and could not find anything definitive and to the point. If there is already a thread, where somebody has done this successfully, please provide a relevant thread.
The power window regulator for the Mitsubishi Montero has an even thread hole spacing and looks heavier duty. The trick will be to find the length to fit properly. They nearly all have the two wire "Up/Down" harness and should work the same way.
Not gonna try and talk you out of trying a mod. That’s what hot rodding is all about. I will say I replace probably a hundred cable and plastic tape drive regulators every year. Almost all the motors use nylon gears. Imo they are weak and built cheaply. I’ve yet to see a scissor style regulator break but they do wear out at the pivot points after a long time. Also almost all new vehicles have window framed doors that are used as long guides for the glass. The vette does not. You will also have to come up with guides that the glass fits into on the ends AND not allow the glass to rock. Any kind of twist or bind in the travel of the glass is what usually breaks the cables or cable guides. I do think it would be a pretty cool mod though. Good luck.
