Hi Avispa. I understand what your saying and yes you right. I won’t be getting anywhere near 6000 rpm. Not with the cam I’m thinking of running. My main concern was noise and durability. Links was a concern. But your right. If I was looking for high revs I’d would definitely be looking at solids. The 396 that I mentioned I bought when I was a kid in my 20’s. That engine had solids when I got it. I use to adjust them once a week. I could not get use to the clatter. My father called it music. Lol. So I took it apart and replaced it with a hydraulic crane. The solid ended up being rounded lobes. The engine ran good till I spun a bearing. That was fun. Had a machinist find me a forge steel crank trw domes and a comp cam. The reason I mention it again is I still remember the low end torque on that engine very impressive.with the gears I had in it and a Muncie. Never had to rev it higher than 5000 to get power. That’s what blew it up in the first place. 82 crossfire's with some porting is only going to give me so much, meaning rpm. My plan is improvements. Getting rid of the smog heads and cam. I want to be able to run it from Boston to N.C. Visit my daughter. So dependability is what I’m searching. After this will do some hot rodding. I’m sure I find something down there. Maybe an older vette with 396. Btw that 396 was in a 68 firebird convertible. I guess he couldn’t find a vette or Camaro to put it in.

I have a fairly small comp xe270hr cam in my cast 10:1 355 (I havent had it over 5500rpm that I can recall as its just driven on the street) I went with these a year and a half ago but ill admit I only have about 800 miles on them so far. I did tear down my top end to swap in aluminum heads this summer at probably about 500 miles and they visually looked fine with no play or strange wear marks on either the lifters or cam. YMMV but if its not a race engine In my opinion I dont think race rated components are always justified. One review I found was from a shop that uses them and they stated they were identical in design to the horwards version. I can confirm they use the same pushrod length as the howards branded ones which I do believe are made by someone other than the manufacturer of these.

Some places like CARID have been selling them for much much more. and ive found nothing but positive reviews on them so far. I will say these do make more noise than flat tappet lifters.

Funny, some people feel Enginetech supplies junk. And they laughed at me when I posted that I thought they were reputable. Glad it worked out for you.

I'm sure there are lifters that will hold up to more abuse in a high performance situation. I was going for oem or better quality with the roller upgrade. If I was building a high dollar high performance forged engine that was going to see more aggressive rpms I likely would have errored on the cautious side and gone with something else other than the lunati/howards branded ones (they have both sell the same lifters as their lower priced option) as I actually DID find report of failures on those. To be fair theres were a lot more people using them so I was more likely to come across someone who had issues but there was a whole thread about them in another forum and they had very mixed reviews. The thing is I know that with modifications like this theres more things that can go wrong, especially if the wrong components such as the wrong springs or pushrod length and well you have know way of knowing what people on a forum did or didnt do correctly.
