Default Part Number

I need a GM part number for an alternator bracket. It's for a SBC '72 base corvette, automatic, power steering, and A/C. My goofy dealer counter parts guy couldn't find one in his book and he wouldn't let me thumb through it to find the right one!

Please help!

not sure about this source, because I get a number, but it won't cross reference with a GM parts database, but see if 3951337 rings a bell  MJ

I have one, with part number 3951338 that is listed for '68 corvette, and maybe more years. The 3951337 may be similar, but I can't find one at {Non-supporting vendor}.com. That is one that I thought would work (the --8 one). T he bracket is actually for my '74 Vega project. I just received the bracket matching the number above, and it doesnt' fit. When lookin at my '72, it seems that alt bracket would work great as it puts the alternator well out to the side of the block. The 3951338 part puts the alt in a position that interferes with my tall valve covers.

Thanks fro the help. I too cannot find a part for number 3951337 with several sources.

Bacchus,

I looked on the parts fiche file, brackets are in Group 2.277. I don't see a bracket listing for a 1972 SBC.

The illustrations on the parts fiche group (63-67), (65-74 BB), (66-72), (73-81), and (80-82 w 70 amp alt) years together.

P/N 3846585 is listed for 69-71 (350) attaching to the exhaust manifold.

The fiche show P/N 3878236 as 68-74 (427,454) for the bracket w/ps. (P/N 3882810 is (427,454) exc. ps.)

Also listed on the fiche are support brackets for 66-74 (427,454)
Upper support bracket P/N 3986109
Lower support bracket P/N 3878240

It seems strange that they would list two different support brackets for the BB and none for the SBC. Perhaps the fiche had a production error and the one of the P/N is correct for the SBC?

I do not find P/N 3951337 listed in Group 2.277.

Maybe this is an omen - time for a billet aluminum March bracket.....

Sorry I couldn't find an answer.

My 1973 parts manual says:
72-73 Corvette (350) 3951337 (1) $5.25
:lolg: I love the old prices :lolg:

If it is 3951337 you might try our corvetteforum supporting vendor and forum restoration store vendor ZIP products!

And if they don't have it, try Paragon ! MJ
(which is where I got the part # from !! )
