Is there someone out there who could show me some pics of the '79 corvette with a turbine-powered engine built by Andy Granatelli??
It would mean a lot.....
Re: Corvette with turbine-powered engine (Erik88vette)
The engine was built by Pratt & Whitney Canada as one of the spares for an earlier Indy 500 attempt. Granatelli owned this and several other similar engines which lay dormant for several years. The original owner of the Corvette (his name escapes me) who owned several aircraft powered by our engines wanted an ultra exotic VIP transport to chauffeur his friends and himself around and arranged for our installation engineers to devise a way to couple one of Granatelli's spares to an otherwise fairly stock drivetrain. My former boss was one of the installation guys, and also served as pit crew during the STP Indy car days. He had a picture of the Corvette in his office and would always bum a ride in my '73 whenever he could
The car was last here at the factory for some repairs in 1999 I think, and was put on display for several days. It is now in private hands and in perfect condition in Ohio last I heard.
There was a page of pictures on our NCRS web site, let me get the URL and get back to you.
