Default Passenger Kick Panel

So in the process of rebuilding the factory A/C system the fresh air vent door and air inlet plenum needed to be replaced. Upon disassemble I found the plenum assembly unattached and stuffed into the air inlet cavity. I’m attempting to re install the kick panel with the plenum assembly mounted and it doesn’t seem to want to go back in without serious contortion, to the point I’m concerned I’ll break it trying to stuff it into position.
Can anyone comment on the procedure for this?

I don’t recall there being any contact issues with the kick panel and the air door assembly.

it was a while back when I rebuilt those parts but it covered some of it here.

The kick panel may have been modified in factory to make clearance and if the previous owner replaced it with a stock one it may need to be trimmed. Am looking for a picture so you can compare.

Air Door assembly does stick out a bit

Here is my left and right kick panels before restoration.

Based on your photo Craig it looks as thought the panel on the left is the passenger side panel. If that’s the case my passenger side panel looks more like the panel on the right side of your photo. Now I’m wondering if the panel was replaced at some point in its life, not sure why someone would do that. It makes me think possibly the panel was replaced with a panel from a non A/C car. Does anyone know if the non A/C car eliminates the fresh air door assembly and therefore uses a different kick panel?

THANKS!!

THANKS!!
The non a/c car has a cable controlled air flap so no vacuum actuator like your car.

The panel was probably cut down in assembly

Thanks guys, your feedback is greatly appreciated. I’ll be busting out the Dremel for some trimming.
