Default Just installed an Ididit universal column

I just installed an Ididit Universal steering column in my ‘68 and it was super easy. I have the Borgeson Power steering and it was always sloppy. I have all new front suspension and ball joints, had the alignment done twice and the factory column rebuilt but nothing seemed to help.

I finally bought an Ididit column (part # 1120350010) swapped the splined end of my rag joint to a 1” DD fitting and bought a Flaming River firewall bracket (part # FR2010VT). The column comes with a flat connector but I cut it off and spliced i. The original wires and connector using the diagram from Jim Shea. For the upper column bracket I used a 2” u-clamp with a 1/8” flat bar and longer bolts. It worked great. This was recommended by ‘anesthes’ and it worked great.

I did buy the column as NOS so all in I was probably about $400. Its amazing.

Curious about what was making the old column sloppy with the Borgeson box. Those are a big step up from the factory box

I dont know but I think it was a crappy rebuild of the column that a local shop did. It only lasted like a year and never was great. I had heard that no matter what you do, the factory column will never be as good as a new Ididit or Flaming River and its true in my respect.

Do you mind verifying the firewall bracket part number? I did some googling but couldn't find it.
I'd love to update my standard steering column to a tilt wheel but rebuilds are crazy expensive so something more affordable would be nice.

I purchased the Ididit Retrofit column part# 1520710051.
It came with everything, ready to install, including the dash bracket correct wiring and new keys.
Plug and play.
Very nice column, but the Retrofit model is a little more pricey.

What I like about is that it appears to be shorter than the stocker, can you confirm JD21476

The stock one was 37” but when I installed the Borgeson box I had to compress the stick steering column to about 35”, the Ididit column was 35”

If I remember correctly, when I ordered my Retrofit column, they told me the steering shaft actually extends out from its manufactured position so it can be easily installed and mated to the steering rag joint.
I think I have a brand new Borgeson Steering rag joint to mate the Ididit column to the Borgeson steering box.
Brand new, still in the package.
Don’t buy one, just PM me and it’s yours.

Will the Ididit retro column work with the Borgeson steering box without any additional modifications? My car is a 68BB with power steering and Borgeson steering and I want to convert to tilt wheel and use my original steering wheel.

I have the Ididit and the Borgeson and they work beautifully but I have a small block.

Thanks did you have to cut or shorten the steering column? I am planning to use my factory steering wheel.

I had shortened my original factory ‘68 column so when I ordered the Ididit I ensured it was the same length.
