Default Floor pans.

I got the new Floor pans done this week end. All welded together. All i have to do now is grind the welds smooth and primer.

By the way, any recommendations on a good primer for galvanized steel.

After i get it painted etc. Will be installing them in the car real soon!!!!

Getting one step cloer to hitting the road again. All i need now is a motor, electrical system, interior, clutch, brake calipers, oh yea i need some tires too.

I feel guilty for praising the POR-15 gods too often.

The new galvanized surface will not accept the POR-15 well, unless properly
prepped. I would get one of their super starter kits - comes with all you'll
need for coating (at least) one side of the floor pans (paint,cleaner,etcher/primer,brush,gloves).
The stuff goes over light rusty metal with ease - leaving a hard glossy finish.

The tricky part is to get a top coat over it. The stuff is UV sensitive - so you
need to keep an eye on it. When it gets dry - but tacky - you need to lightly
coat it with something like Krylon semi-flat black (good chassis match).
Just give it a dusting - then come back the next day for a final coat of Krylon.

I have used it (so far) on my upper windshield frame. I'm ready now to
tackle the rest of it with POR - but need to heat the garage up.

Here is a picture of the passenger side floor pans of my 77 with POR-15 on it. I scraped it with a scraper to get the crap off of it, prepped the metal with Metal Ready and then put on two coats of POR-15.

Hey Bob,

It looks like you painted over the two front seat bolts (in the floor).
What happened when you broke those free ? Did the POR chip around the bolt - or break clean ?

Lookin' good.

I used Por15 on my windshield frame and calipers and it works just as they claim.Ask them about your application and I`m sure they can fix you up.

Took them out before the paint dried and then put them right back in with no problem. I didn't want to have to deal with POR-15 clogging the threads and I'm just not good enough of a painter to paint around the holes without getting paint in them.

I talked to POR15 and they said all i need to do was wash the surface with their metal prep and it would stick fine.

Don't know?? :(

Right - the metal prep etches and primes the smooth surface.

Last time I checked, the price of a small can of POR and a small bottle
of metal prep was almost about the same as a super starter kit, which includes a
bottle of the cleaner, a brush, and latex gloves.
