My dads 78 L82 manual non CA car needs a new manifold back system. I see Corvette central has one that’s claims to be the oem type. Anyone have experience with these? Any other vendors that are better?

I have Corvette Central exhaust on my 66. Full system from manifolds to tips. The pipes are good. Been on the car 25 years. Mufflers rotted out internally after about 12 years. I'm on set #2 and they're still good.

Overall a good product.

I bought a complete proper, earlier dual system, (except mufflers), from Keen for my '76 and it seems to be really good quality and fit nicely. No problems.

Corvette Central telling me that there are no gaskets on the catalytic converter on a 78. Anyone know if that's true?

The original cat had gaskets, but it was completely different from CC's.
If they say it doesn't...

I've had the true dual no cat CC system on mine for over 10 years. Fit was perfect & it still looks like new...

I put the original type exhaust from CC on my 78 12 years ago. The cat came with gaskets, but they could have changed joint/seal types. The Magnaflow free-flowing cat is round vs the pancake original with pellets inside. Opted for Magnaflow mufflers as well, and have been very happy with the sound they make.

CC replacement exhaust after 12yrs/16k miles.

Thanks. I see what you mean about the stock cat. It’s wide and flat. I need to get this car on a lift. The exhaust from the cat back has been changed and hangs very low.

Can anyone tell me if this is an OEM hanger after the cat?

Looks the same. The cat gasket is also visible.

What is meant by "true" dual exhaust? As compared to dual exhaust? Thx

I`ve had the CC stock exhaust system, including the hi-flow cat, on my `79 for over 10 years. It has been great and I love the tone.

'75 to '82 came from the factory with a Y-pipe off the motor into one cat, and then into another Y-pipe, 2 pipes & the mufflers.

True duals are 2 pipes from the manifolds all the way to the mufflers...

You probably can't do a true dual system due to PA Inspection......correct?

Good....then ditch the 2-1-2 exhaust for a true dual system....Hooker makes a nice system as well as Corvette Central for a 74' model....bolts right on....free up about 20 horsepower....
The stock exhaust is pretty terrible.....no good reason to keep it on the car....

The Corvette Central exhaust kits are nice sets of pipes. I went with a dual system with Magnaflows to replace the stock 2-1-2 system on my 1980. The Magnaflows were nice, but weren't "enough" for me so I did switch them out for a set of Flowmasters, but I have no complaints at all about the price and fitment of their kit. Nice little power bump too.
