After looking closer, even removing the head bolt wont help. the socket will still hit the head casting. if you zoom in you can see the casting is the problem not the bolt

You could take a dremmel with a disc and gring some off the head bolt boss too.....carefully......a steady hand can even blend it a bit as to not look cut or ground on......
From the pic it appears that removing the head bolt will gain zero as the sender is sunk in too far.....

Thanks man. I agree. Removing the head bolt does nothing. Someone also said these are the wrong head bolts. I dont know. They were installed 5,000 miles ago and haven't had any issues other than this sensor. I appreciate your help as Im not a mechanic.

I see. Yes, these head castings are different from stock. I wonder if Edelbrock has an extended sender unit to work with these heads...

Here is my temperature sensor socket. Forget the size and it isn't marked.

Edit: OK, I looked it up. It is a Kolbalt 337742 which is 15/16" socket, 1/2" drive. I cut off the part with the marking.

Anyway, 12 point socket with about 25% cut away. Temperature sensor is NPT tapered thread so get about two to three slight turns on it and it will come right out.

It means you won't be able to reuse the sender, but you'll get it out of the head.

Break off the connector, drill a hole into it the sender, then use a left-hand-threaded EZ-Out bolt extraction tool to remove the sender with an impact drill.

This assumes you have a straight shot at it.

Here's one example at Amazon. I'm sure they sell something similar at Harbor Freight.

You still need to be able to install the new sensor.

Here is the sensor from my original L-48 installed in the Edelbrock heads of my 496. (That way the garage is accurate). My modded socket worked great. 20k miles, no issues.

OK. I see the problem is the casting, not the bolt.

The modified socket would be my next suggestion. You might be able to get it with a crows foot, but you'll definitely be able to knock it loose with the modified socket.

And I'd look for a 1/2 NPT bushing and try to find a 1/4 NPT or 1/8 NPT temperature sender if you're going to use those heads. Get the busing in tight, and if you ever have to replace the sender, it'll be small enough to get a wrench on it.
