I just got off the phone with the insurance company. The estimated cost to fix the car would be $14131.00 which is over 70% of the insured value... however - they are not going to total the car because it's repairable...
I decided to get the estimated value... and I will sell the wreck on Ebay...
I hope that I will be able to get $5k for the wreck... I will start the bidding at $1000.. and see what the car will go for....
Insurance companies seem to change the rules based on what i sin their best interest. It seems as if they would rather pay 80% of the car's value than 100%.
So I assume that they wil write you a check for the damage total and let you do as you please - either sell the wreck ro repair?
I had one company insist that the payment be made to the shop for the settlement amount and any additional costs be picked up by me. They took away the "sell the wreck" option.
Who do you have for insurance? Do you have standard insurance or a special
policy because it's a 'rare' car.
Seems SF here in texas won't do anything special for cars that are not classic
(25 yrs or older.) They say that they will look around to figure out the value of the
car...

Interesting. It sounds like you received a reasonable settlement for the car. It's just such a shame that it happned at all. Good luck with selling it.
That sounds pretty good actually, you are gettgin more or less what you were asking for it and the car gets to live! Hopefully someone will rebuild it, it would be a shame for a rare car like that to end up as a crushed, cube of metal and fiberglass!

Well - I would have prefered that I would have been able to sell it instead of having the accident... but it ended up pretty ok for me..
I don't have the time or money for another major project now (imagine having 2 non driveable cars), otherwise I would have given buying it a serious thought. I've always loved that car. I hope someone here buys it and brings it back to former glory.

I hope that this will happen... However - if it doesn't sell - another forum member has offered to part it out for me and sell it in parts... If the car doesn't bring at least $4k - I will have him part it out...
Olivier - Having Haggerty myself, as many others here, can you rate them as to how well they dealt with you, espeacially as to the time it took to settle. Also, as I assume that the other Vette is insured with them, did they say anything about cancelling. Oh, also, what did you tell them in regards to why you were driving the Duntov, at the time of the accident. I know that they have strict rules about where and when you can drive the car.

Thanks for your input in advance!!
It looks like the check will be sent out to me tomorrow... I will keep you updated... They were very quick in handling everything... So far - they were very professional and quick...
