Default Misfire and engine cuts out.

Hi,

Can you help me please? My 82 crossfire starts ok, and whilst pressing the accelerator drives ok. It is only when I press the accelerator hard, as I need more power to get away from a junction etc
does the car lose power misfires ( backfire through the exhaust ) and cuts out completely. After stopping the car, it does start straight away, and I can move off after gently pressing the throttle. I thought it may be a vacum leak, I have not found any leaks at the moment. Possible fuel of could it be an electrical problem?

Thank you for your response

First thing you check on any Cross Fire Injected car is the fuel pressure......you need 13+ PSI to operate properly.
The symptom you describe could also be caused by bad injectors that will not flow enough fuel.......had this happen on my TBI Camaro twice over a 12 year period and had to replace injectors after the car sat for a long time (Michigan Winters).

Learn how to retrieve codes from your computer just to rule out fuel........fuel issues will not show up as a code.......if you have a code, address the issue.

I have had the car for a year and suffered no problems

Everything was fine before

Other than the rocker cover gaskets changed about six weeks ago, no other work done. After the work was completed, I took the car for a run several times with no issues.

I think Jebby hit it on the head. Is it throwing any codes?
What is your fuel pressure?

First culprit is fuel pressure aka fuel pump - now is the time to upgrade to an 85-87 tpi fuel pump that will feed your TBIs 13 psi even when its half dead. AND regasket the TBIs for the newfound pressure !!!!
