Trying to install new control arm bushings. I can get one side pressed in, but when I try to push the other one in it pops the first one out. It seems that a lot of compression of the rubber grommet is necessary for these to be in the correct place.
1st hypothesis. The rubber in the bushing is supposed to be compressed, but the shaft and the control arm are so worn that they won't hold in place. The shaft was definitely spinning in the bushing.
2nd hypothesis. I have the wrong bushings and or shaft.
Related question. Does all the movement in these bushings happen from twisting of the rubber and the shaft and the inner sleeve are connected as well as the bushing and the control arm?
This area of your control arm is bent/distorted. Correct that or replace the arm. They are readily available and not very expensive.
The movement should only be from the flex of the rubber. Once it's all tightened up there will be no movement of the shaft.
What is going on here?
