Default auto to six speed

How much work would it be to turn an auto to a 6 speed standard, how much hacking needs to be done, and other than the new tranny what other parts would i need
thanks

One of the CF members (I think GWHITE75) put a Tremec T-56 into his Vette.. He put together a nice documentation of the installation...

lucky for you i just did it, auto to a ROD 6 speed. what i did was called a corvette junk yard and go tthe hole conversion package for 800.00 it includes a bellhousing, z bar and stud, cross shaft, standard pedals, 4 speed tranny w/ shifter, brakets that the z bar hook up to, drive shaft, starter, flywheel, clutch w/ disc etc.... EVERY thing you need to do the swap, you would of corse still have to buy the 6 speed and put it in the 4 speed's place. and i would higly recomend buying a new flywheel, clutch w/ disc and a new throw out bearing. i put in a dual friction center force clutch and disc for 300.00, 30.00 self adjusting bearing, and a 15lb light wieght flywheel for 150.00 from flatlanderracing.com all toghther i spent a little over 4,000 to do it. as for the mods that have to be made ( at least on my 81) the cross member has to be moded, i just welded on a bracet and drilled holes, works grate, my drive shaft was the right lenght but i had it balanced and spicer u joints put in. you have to re wire for the safty netral switch, but thats about it for mods. i however am a mechanic and i was like ooo my, its a lot of work, took me about 30 hrs to do it. you have to take the entire dash, center console, pillar posts, brake booster, steering colum, heater vents etc.. off/out to change the pedals over. any questions just e-mail me at gravismaximus@aol.com good luck, it was fun :steering:

Wow that does sound like a lot of work, but thanks for a good answer, my idea was to get an 80(I love the look of them) but standards are rare and I'd want a 6 speed, but with that much work I'll have to think about it, I'm no mechanic, hopefully I'll be able to find a 4 speed to make things easier, thanks again
