Default Horsepower Question (Ricer)

Does anyone know how to figure how much HP you lose going from the FW to the street? My friend just ran his Supra Turbo  at the track and wants to figure out how much HP he has. He ran a 15.289 @ 91.5MPH.

Any ideas???? Thanks guys!

Typically you lose 15 to 25% from drivetrain friction depending on the transmission. Check out http://www.smokemup.com/auto_math/index.php
Also http://www.smokemup.com/auto_math/hp_mph.php will give you hp from 1/4 mile trap speeds. This is what I got from your info:

You Entered:
Vehicle Weight - 3400 (lbs)
Trap Speed - 91.5 (mph)
Drivetrain Loss - 20 (%)

Results:
Rear Wheel HP - 176.9
Crankshaft HP - 221.1

Using E.T. and http://www.smokemup.com/auto_math/hp_et.php I calculated:

Results:
188 Rear Wheel HP
235 Crankshaft HP

You get ballpark numbers, no more.

Thanks for the info! It's a '91, auto, single turbo with a Taga top. It's actually a pretty nice car and it runs well. He ran it last night just to get a base line of what it would do (it is 100% stock) now he (and I I suppose) are going to try and do a few things to it to see if we can get him a little more HP.

I told him the next time he runs it at the track I'll bring my vette and we'll see what happens!! I shouldn't laugh, I don't know what mine would run...never done it.

Thanks again everyone!

Q: What do a 600, 700, and 800 HP Supras have in common?

A: They all do 12s in the 1/4 mile.

Certainly, that's a _slight_ exaggeration, but I understand where you're coming from.

Still, it may run 11s, but at 140mph. Easy 9-second capable. Wouldn't want to race it from 20mph.

IMHO, its a lot easier to build a drag-only car vs. something that can do a lot of things well (which defines "sports car", IMHO). It's all in what you want out of it, and that will vary from one person to the next.
