What orientation does this little plastic thing go in?

The second of your three pictures is the correct install. It's called a vent baffle.

its to keep fuel from sloshing up into the vent and subsequently into your intake

Does it work? Sounds handy.

My car floods a bit when coming to a hard stop on the streets. Seems like that wouldn't be completely preventable, but perhaps somewhat mitigated with a combination of this baffle and perhaps lowering the floats a bit?

Not trying to hijack the thread, just never saw one of these overflow baffles before. Curious.

Cheers

Should already be there. Do you have a secondary metering block or just a plate?

I didn't think about what I was looking at! I have a 5140 holley. Street Avenger 570. It does not have these baffles.

It escaped me momentarily that we're not all necessarily running the same carburetors :joy:

the very old design was brass...I have one. They sell a little screen now that is supposed to be a better idea.

Yes, you have a metering plate but check the secondary float level.

I switched to the whistle myself on my center carb for hard launches
