Hello, I'm looking into replacing the original dist by a new one. MSD seems to have interesting products. I have a 81 4spd with a Holley carb. Do you have a suggestion for a dist make/model? I want to remove the gauges Bezel to fix the water temp gauge.... I have removed all the screws around the bezel and the 2 other screws under the bezel but something is keeping the bezel/panel in place.....Thanks
You mentioned the radio stem nuts in your title.
Yes, you will have to remove them to remove the center gauge bezel.
If it's the original radio it most likely still has the round radio trim nuts installed.
You should be able to remove them with a small pick or if you have the correct Snap-On 1/4" drive #S9605 socket.
If you use a small pick, it's tight in there be careful not to mess up the shaft threads...
They really shouldn't be all that tight.
If you are trying to remove the radio while it is still installed in the bezel, then check on the passenger side of the radio for a bracket. This bracket attaches to the passenger side of the radio and then to the transmission tunnel. It supports the back of the radio
Yes if you have a extra socket with a starting length of 2.30" and a max OD diameter of 9/16" you can make one.
Those are the dimensions of the snap-on socket.
