Default 81 Horn relay

Hey guys need a little help here. I have my horn relay activating but not energizing the horns, so I want to replace it. I hear it under the dash clicking each time I push the horn button but for the life of me can't find it??? Not the easest place for this 69 year old to get into but I have and still no luck locating it, a pic of its location would be priceless to me. Thanks in advance.

Have you checked to make sure you are getting power out to the horns? I would get a multimeter or a test light and make sure you have power there. The horns themselves will actually seize up over time. Your horns could be located in two different places on the car. I have seen them mounted on the front clip, right between the headlights or to the outside of the right and left headlight. Pictures showing where they are if they are on the outside of the headlights. Not too easy to get to them if they are to the outside of the headlights. Oh and the relay is on the wiring harness after it comes out of the fuse block under the dash. On my 81 it is the yellow relay in the two pics below. You can see where it is in relation to the fuse block under the dash.

Thanks for the pics, yeah i have looked all around the fuse box and nothing visible but I can hear that relay operating? Power to horns, I guess I should check those, maybe the unseen relay is good and the horns are stuck.....Still need to find that relay!!

That would be my guess. That is what I found on my 81 except one horn worked but the other didn't. I could hear the relay clicking when the horn was applied. The one that didn't work was seized up from moisture and/or not being used.

Both my horns work when powered at the horns, boy thats another fun job if you need to get those out. So kind of happy its the relay now just to find that illusive part.

I believe it is on the left side of the steering column. It is in the main bundle of wires coming out of the top of the fuse block. Follow that bundle up and you should find it within a foot or less from the fuse block.

Yeap you are right, it was above the wiring harness. Got the relay out and it tested fine but noticed when pressure was put on the relay the horns worked, so my thinking is the connection going to the horns is flakey. Going to build an extension harness so that relay is more accessible for trouible shootin. Thanks for all your help!!!
