Default Origunal furl pump

I am getting ready to install my rebuilt L82 engine so I have an orignal fuel pump that has never given me a problem ( 77K miles). I tried to manipulate the arm that contacts the cam lobe before installing but it only moves a tiny fraction. It has been out of service for about 3 months. It this normal or do I buy another pump and hope I get a decent part since there have been so mamy negative reviews on the market place.
Also I need a recommendation on buying a new water pump, again too many choices don't want to buy crap but something with a reasonable price.( cast iron or Aluminum)

if original use it IMO.. the arm is VERY stiff to push.. no leaks or obvious signs of issues.. i would be reusing..
that said simple enough once together to run pressure and flow test..
not a disaster to change out in car either..

You need considerable force to move the fuel pump arm.
Look at Flowkooler water pumps.

You have the push rod installed that rides against the cam lobe operates the pump arm.

I would only re-Use it if your fuel pump has not been exposed to ANY Ethanol during it's life.

Modern gasoline frequently has 10% ethanol mixed into it to help with emissions and the ethanol starts eating away at the older rubber right away. Newer parts are likely made with a newer version of rubber or material designed to handle the ethanol.

I switched from a Stewart's Water pump to a aluminum Edlebrock Water pump. The Edelbrock works great and looks awesome and cost less than the modified Stewart's pump. Having a 427 I am always looking to reduce the weight on the front of my engine and the Edelbrock's Chrome-like finish is very nice looking and pumps the fluid effectively.

To also answer your question on water pumps, I've used the Stewart, Stage 2 Water Pump on a number of small block Chevy's and always been pleased with the results.

JEGS carries the Stage 2 with the 5/8" pilot part # 935-22103 https://www.jegs.com/i/Stewart-Compo...22103/10002/-1

and with the 3/4" pilot part # 935-22203 https://www.jegs.com/i/Stewart-Compo...22203/10002/-1

Both are the short pump used on SB Corvettes and are made of heat-treated aluminum castings

You just need to know what size pilot you have, either 5/8" or 3/4" to be sure your pulleys will fit properly.

Whatever water pump you buy, you should also be prepared to move the hub on the pump shaft if necessary to get the exact pulley alignment you need for your application. I have rarely gotten a new water pump for a SB Chevy (of any manufacturer), that I was satisfied with and have found it is not difficult to move the hub if done carefully. Access to a hydraulic press will make this even less difficult.

Good luck... GUSTO
