I always check air gap and also bench test the clutch on the compressor to verify its moving in/out properly.
I did not measure the gap. But it's there, small, and it works on and off, so figure it's fine. This compressor runs all the time if a/c is on. Only shuts off when a/c is turned off.

Yes that will work as well, mine is stock OEM so it works different.
Mine is also stock except for the conversion to 134a. Which was a drier and switch.
