Thinking about an appraisal on my car. Idea is to document value of car with documents and photographs. So, how to go about this? Who to call? How much?
I do not. Difficult to follow the intent and rational of the poster. He needs advice with insurance of some kind. His questions are scattered in several threads. Meaningful answers are not forthcoming in that context.
I guess that I am out-voted ;) . No problem. The poster starts with a question on cancelling insurance, one company with another. Mixes classic car insurance vrs. "agreed value". Obvious confusion. Then posts on a problem with Hagerty re classic car insurance. I explain the difference. Now a new topic re appraisal that I mentioned in my reply to his second post. That is fine. OK!
Mark,
I have received your very testy IM and I have responded, but not in the same language or tone. My advice is based on extensive experience in insuring my Corvette. The advice was freely given and offered. You do not have to accept it. And you have not. So be it. I will not offer advice in future.

Re: Car Appraisal (OHSIXX)
Like you I'm getting ready to have my car appraised. First, I contacted my current insurance company about collector car values for insurance. They informed my that they accept appraisals for such insurance and they will accept 3rd party appraisals, great. As luck would have it, when I recently bought my new 2002 Silverado, I inquired if the dealership whom sold me the truck would appraise my 74 Corvette convertible and the answer was yes. So once I finish the restoration I'll be on the way to the dealership to get my free appraisal and they also happen to have a Corvette appraiser on their staff. I'll see how it goes and I like the fact that I can get this done locally. Perhaps you could do something similiar.
No! A GM dealership will give you book/market value on a C3 Corvette. You will need a classic/antique appraiser to get a "real" market value. Please do not do that GM route. You will be bitterly disappointed. Why is my message on "agreed on" value for insurance purposes not clear? I have been flogging this concept for months! Do it! Get an independent appraisal for ~$50.00. I really do not understand why people will not spend $50.00 to get a $20,000 car appraised :( .
I agree with Paul.. :iagree: Don't go to a dealership, go to an independent and you will get a honest, unbiased overview on the true value of your car. :yesnod:

Re: Car Appraisal (OHSIXX)
Oh, how I enjoy the replies about from the resident forum experts. :nopity I'll let the Forum know how it goes in a few months after I finish the restoration. There are many Classic Car Insurance Sites ready to do business with you. I'm going to try my free appraisal for the dealers local corvette enthusiast appraiser first. "No venture made nothing gained" :grouphug:
I missed your post about how to go about getting agreed value for your vehicle. could you please post again of send this info to my e address: oldguard7@hotmail.com.

I agree also. You don't want an appraisal of what a dealership will give you on a trade in (which is what you'll get). They just want you back on the lot so they can have a shot at selling you a car. Insurance companies and banks don't accept their appraisals anyway. As already mentioned, a PROFESSIONAL classic car appraiser is well worth the cost. A REAL classic car appraiser will also be a fan of classic cars and will likely give you a value on the high side, which would work in your favor in the event of a claim or if you sell the car.
