Default Pillar trim- weatherstripping question

1971 Coupe
I’m re installing the stainless pillar trim and weatherstripping and had a few questions. The weatherstripping track has slotted screw holes for adjustment but when you put sealant under it it’s going to lock it in place? How is the “reveal” set, does the window side glass need to be in place and adjusted first? On a similar thread, I removed the small trim bracket to remove rust and re coat with rubber, I cant find the correct rivets local so I was going to thread two #6 screws into the birdcage. This will lock the trim in place and not allow adjustment so I’m second guessing that route.

The inboard/outboard positioning of this piece will determine where your weatherstrip sits relative to the window. Too far out you may have issues with the window dragging on the weatherstrip, possibly hitting the clip. Too far inward the glass may not seat against the weatherstrip properly.

I would raise the window, adjust the position as needed to align the weatherstrip with the glass. I assume you have not changed the window positioning adjustments on the door?

The glass isn’t in the door yet. It sounds like I should install glass and adjust it first. I can’t imagine getting it (pillar weatherstripping track) correct with the front edge of the side glass. These cars are very tricky to me, everything “hinges” off of something else.

My goals are pretty lofty for the fit of side glass to weatherstripping- t tops stripping. I’m a bit out of my element so we’ll see how it goes!

I just went through this with my 70. A bit more tricky with power windows because they don’t tolerate much drag. My process pretty much follows what is described in the AIM.

Thanks, I’ll get my side glass in and adjusted before the pillar weatherstripping.

I just want to add, if you’re going to use screws to fasten the clips, you won’t be able to adjust inboard/outboard once the clips are installed. Reason I suggest waiting until the glass is installed, positioning of the weatherstrip finalized. It’s a balancing act, adjusting the glass and weatherstrip. 👍
