I would guess after exposure to gas, that it may be detrimental for drying out some flexibleparts.. starting after a month or 2? 
let alone residues that dry in it.. like a lawn edger etc that sits..
then again it may perform enough after a few years but not like after new/ rebuild.

Use fogging oil.... I build carbs during the winter, and coat them internally with it and never have an issue.
