Default Best quality V belts?

I've got a new set of belts on my 75 and regardless how tight they are I've got one that keeps squealing. Not thinking it's a bad bearing somewhere, it would be consistent and this makes noice only under high RPMs. Who makes a quality belt and would anybody happen to know the part numbers for everything but the A.C. compressor?

I will bet you a chili dog, fries and a chocolate shake, it's not the belts no matter which brand you try.

Rust / road grime / fluids, inside each & every pulley groove will do that.

They do have surface rust on the exposed areas of the pulleys . I've had the car since 9/22 and might have put 200 miles on it,been apart for most of the time I've owned it. So just short of removing the pulleys and cleaning them up,over time they will eventually clean up.

What belts are you using now? I know Gates are what I use for everything. One of the issues with the c3 is that stock belt size is 7/16 and no one makes that anymore. All of the interchange numbers I see are for a 3/8 belt. Some of these 3/8 may sit too far down in the pulley and not ride at the proper position. You may want to consider moving up to a 1/2 belt.

My engine builder suggested going to belts that are ribbed on the outside.
He gave me the name, but I don’t remember what it was.
I’ll talk with him today and get the name.

I would also do a light glass bead on the inside groves of the pulleys. If you spil anti freeze on the pulleys it will most likely cause them to squeal.

Gator back? Just a gimmick.
And then there are the ones ribbed on the inside. Talk about losing half the strength of the belt, half the rubber is gone.
Makes no sense.

The ribbed belts I have seen are Dayco brand. Might be others. I use Napa belts and have good results with them. Not saying they are the best though.

I find this statement interesting, as I live overseas all the V belts are sold in metric sizes. And I have found absolutely no trouble finding 11mm wide V belts. In a variety of lengths. Check it out. A 11mm belt IS a 7/16ths belt. And there are a number of manufacturers world wide making them.

I'm running Dayco belts on my 75 L48 without a single bit of noise, squeak or problems.
Alt - 15535
P/S - 15360
AC - no belt at this time but will add in the future when I get the AC operable again.

Of note is the P/S belt that was on the car when I got it was about 3/4" - 1" longer that the 15360 and I couldn't get the top/dipstick out of the P/S pump.as it hit the lower alt bracket.
Good luck
