Music Trivia-Saturday Night, Let's Go...
1) In Jan and Dean's "Deadman's Curve" what was the engine displacement of the Jaguar XKE, its configuration and its horsepower rating?
2) What is a Goat? In what years did the names apply?
3) The Little Old Lady from Pasadena drove a Super Stock Dodge. What was the engine and what nickname did it have? If you have seen one of these they are very impressive!
4) In American Graffitee, what engine was in Ronnie Howard's 1958 Impala? Who was that mystery Lady in the T-Bird? And for Dep, what was a pink slip. And did it really happen?
5) What is a "little deuce coupe?" And what is a flathead mill?
6) What are chrome reversed rims?
7) Your turn!

1. XKE in 1964 was available with a 4.2Litre 6 with 245hp, seems like there was a more powerful 4.2 later with 265hp. Later, I think in the late 60's there was a 317hp V12 available.
2. Too easy, Goat=GTO by Pontiac, 1964 to 1972 were the glory years, 389ci, 400 ci, 455ci; Later cars were called the GTO, but they were smog cars and not supercars. Pontiac is going to sell a remodeled Australian Holden later this year as a GTO, it will be powered by a 5.7 GenIII SBC.
3.Hemi In the last form it was 426ci, 2 4 barrel carbs, 426hp;
4. It was probably either a 283 or the first Big Block Chevy produced the 348.
Suzanne Summers, Title to car, I have no idea, but probably so.
5.32 Ford Coupe, Flathead Mill = Ford Flathead V-8, first engine used by the earliest Hot Rodders.
6. Exactly what you said, Chromed wheels that were modified to give the appearance of a wider stance.
Okay Paul, here's one for you...
What was the Oldsmobile's answer to the Goat, and what did its nickname mean?

1) In Jan and Dean's "Deadman's Curve" what was the engine displacement of the Jaguar XKE, its configuration and its horsepower rating?
3.8 litre, dohc straight 6, 265
2) What is a Goat? In what years did the names apply?
Pontiac GTO. In all years as far as I know.
3) The Little Old Lady from Pasadena drove a Super Stock Dodge. What was the engine and what nickname did it have? If you have seen one of these they are very impressive!
Hmm, 413 or 426 Wedge (don't rember what year the song was).
4) In American Graffitee, what engine was in Ronnie Howard's 1958 Impala? Who was that mystery Lady in the T-Bird? And for Dep, what was a pink slip. And did it really happen?
348 tripower? Suzanne Sommers. Vehicle title. Did what really happen?:)
5) What is a "little deuce coupe?" And what is a flathead mill?
32 Ford coupe. An engine with it's valves in the block.
6) What are chrome reversed rims?
Steel wheels with the center section reversed to put the deeper part to the outside (the rim was often made wider also), they were chromed.
7) Your turn!
In what year was the 409 first made available in a passenger car?

This is an actual question: what's a "big chrome tach"? (Heard in The Beach Boys' Chug-a-Lug; I'm not sure that's exactly what they say...)

I guess that I can't fool anybody.
The XKE Jag was a 6-cylinder in-line engine with side-draft carbs. They were terribly difficult to tune. Much like the early MGAs and MGBs of which I had two.
Goat. I do not know the answer. But the 1964 to 1966s are my favourites. That 389 with a 3 x 2 was and is the ultimate muscle car.
I was thinking of the 413 wedge engine. But the Hemi was a jewel in its day. The cross-ram intake, etc.
I believe that 1958 had the 348 in it. A nice truck engine from which it was adapted. And yes. Suzanne Sommers.
The Ford flat head was named because it was a side-valve configuration: the valves were side-ways in the head rather than overhead.
Chrome reverse. Yes, an ordinary steel wheel centre was separated from the outer rim, rewelded and chromed. That gave a car a wider stance. Loved them on my 1963 Impala.
Oldsmobile introduced the 4-4-2. A very impressive performer in those days. Four-speed, four-barrel and dual exhaust. Thus 4-4-2. It was in use by Police Departments to catch you fellows with your C2 Corvettes. Unfortunately it did not handle or have the brakes for that task ;) .
