Water Temp Gauge
Coolant temp sensor located on the left side head, I don’t see any temps above 200 with an infrared but the gauge is pushing close to 250 or just past the half way point rather quickly. We have a high volume water pump, griffin all aluminum radiator, twin electric fans pulling from the back side, high flow 180 degree thermostat.
I am going to connect another gauge to another location but before I continue troubleshooting, I am wondering if anyone has seen the header cause the temp sensor to report inaccurate readings? I put the infrared on the sensor that is next to the header and those temps can reach 300-400 degrees.
before I continue chasing a ghost, has anyone relocated the temp sensor? Anybody have an issue with the factory location?
I’m going to connect another gauge temporarily to read the actual coolant temp from the thermostat housing but wanted to bounce this one off you guys before I continue.
The Heater Core and A/C has been deleted.
any feedback is appreciated.
The link @calwldlife posted includes discussion of a Lectric Limited sender (be sure to get the correct one for your application). That is likely to be the issue. I would trust the IR temp gun.
If you can find a waterneck with a pipe-threaded hole in it, that's a great place to put an aux sender, though you'll only see water temps after the thermostat opens and water is flowing. Or you can drill a tiny hole in the thermostat, as many of us do.

i read the thread, seems like this one is the original 1970 version. The plug is different than what is installed, but I’ll give it a shot.
