Changing spark plugs. (Iron manifolds, small block...)
I would like to know, before I start the tune-up project, if there are any special tools I need to reach all the spark plugs? I'm afraid to go in blind, only to find out that, for the last plug, I'll need a left-handed, counter-rotating ratcheting skeezy wrench!
I only use a spark plug wrench and a 3 in extension. On number 7 and 8 I only have room for the socket. Its easier to reach 7-8 from underneath in my car. It may be easier if you have a rotating head but you don't need it. It is pretty straight forward.
Interesting expression.
The first time I changed my plugs I did them all from above.
I was working "blind", that is, just by feel, in a couple of cases because I couldn't see the plug.
It wasn't too bad though.
The second time I changed the plugs I had the car up on jack stands (for other projects) and it was definitely easier to get to and see some plugs from below.
Anyway, I had handy, and used, a 3/8" rachet, 3" and 6" extension, and swivel.
I'm not saying all of that is necessary; I'm just saying I used it and I think it made the job easier.
BTW, I'm not sure what the group's opinion is on the stuff, but I've been using anti-seize on all of the spark plugs I replace lately. I'm not sure if it'll help, but I don't think it'll hurt.
