I'm having my auto trans fluid, filter, and gasket replaced soon at a Vette repair shop. It's a '70 with rebuilt trans. I'd do it myself, but can't get the car elevated enough (and level enough) to get under it properly. Is there any good "additive" one can pour in with the new trans fluid to help it shift smoother and preserve its life? Or, should only a GM suggested ATF be used?
there are products that claim this.
the thing about auto-trans is, if they don't shift right, fluid ain't going to fix it.
a valvebody shift kit may help, good time to do one.
I don't own a QuickJack nor a pro garage lift. It would be a hassle for me to do this by myself in my garage, only using jack stands. Just not worth it to me as I get older...
You'd be amazed at what I do in a tiny one car garage on jackstands! Absolutely amazed.
Although before I changed automatic transmission fluid that thing would be on the floor on the way to the junk yard.
None the less. Some people actually want a automatic in a sports car. Just not me.
And I'm no kid myself, now, back to my tiny one car garage where my baby is up on jackstands. I have driveline work to do.
