Visited another shop today
I've got a customer that brings in, every week or so, a specialty car to do horsepower pulls at The Dyno Shop. Sometimes Ferrari's sometimes mid-fifties Porsche Speedsters, and sometimes things I've never heard of. Last time it was a "Genetta" and probably spelled wrong. His boss has had him build an engine for an Alpha that is the only one in the World still racing. He tells me there are four of that model in existence, and three are in museums. Frequently he brings in cars worth 1 to 2 million dollars, because of their pedigree of races won.
He invited me to his shop today and I was impressed! Lineoleum tile on the floor, and TONZZZZZZZ of engine building equipment! He showed me his new automated ring filer. He replaced his compressor because "when powder coating parts the other one would run out of air." Then he showed me his "clean room" where he builds the engines for these race cars.
To put this in perspective, I was already VERY impressed by the cleanliness and the neatness of the shop. One half of it is like a showroom for specialty cars (covered with plastic) that are race-ready. The other half is what I have just described above. So now, let's go into the "clean room" where he builds race engines:
You go into a door and close it behind you. The air conditioner kicks in and controls the atmosphere to desired limits. And THERE IS ANOTHER COMPLETE SET OF TULZZZZZZZZZZZ in there! When he is in the engine building mode, he does not have to go into the main shop for ANYTHING! It is all right there at his fingertips because this clean room is only like maybe, 8x10 or 10x12. Small but there is a tool box, engine stand, and an work bench. All he needs.
And the neatest part about this whole thing is that when he gets the engine installed in the race car, he brings it to ME to check horsepower!! Go to the Dyno Shop website and visit the Specialty pages for a taste.
