Default 1973 Front Bumper Questions

As part of my 73 big block restomod project I removed the body and I’m ready to start rebuilding and upgrading the chassis.
Once the body was removed I found the only portion of the front bumper assembly left on the chassis was the frame horns plus the body to frame supports.
Nothing else was under the rubber bumper cover.
I know the actual metal bumper piece is there for some collision protection, but the bumper piece is just thin metal and probably provides little to no collision protection and the real protection is provided by the vacuum tank, which will remain.
Can I just remove the pieces attached to the vacuum tank and save the additional weight?
