I've used it to drill the holes for my emblems on 2 hoods now, it works great. When you print it, make sure you print it actual size. I have a 1" long mark on there, so check it with a ruler to make sure the scale is correct before you use it.
Here are the emblems I installed tonight on the L88 hood. The hood and the car go to the paint shop this week. I'm only having the hood painted to match. The car will have to wait for a year or two.
Re: Anyone need a template for drilling 427 emblems? (Steve Straus)
Do you guys think putting 355 on mine would be cheesy? i want something to set off that badass hood, but im not going to put 427 emblems on my non-427 car...

Len: I think the 454 needs a slightly different template. They aren't hard to make. I made it by seperating the leaves on my dining room table about 3/4" or just wide enough for the emblems to fit. I measured the emblem height using a set of dial calipers then traced the lines on a piece of construction paper. AFter that, line up the lines on the leaf edges on the table, then punch the numbers through. They need to be 1.75" apart at the *centerline* of each number. Installing them on the hood is simply a matter of taping the tempate in place after carefully measuring each angle and position on the hood.
Ben: See the instructions above, I think it would work. You might even be able to use some 350 emblems off of a Camaro, but I think the inside of the emblems are painted white. As far as the non-427 thing, my car was originally a 427 car, so I could either have gone 454, which no 69 had, or 427 which is correct for the period. I technically don't have a 454 either, so I figured 427 would be cooler. I think people will be all that more surprised when I pop the hood :D.
Chris: The 468 has a Victor Jr intake on it. Even milled down it's the shortest Intake I can use. The stock LS-6 intake I bought wouldn't fit over the 350cc intake runners on the heads. This thing in a million years wouldn't fit under the BB hood. I sold it a few months back and got the Ecklers L88 hood.
Re: Anyone need a template for drilling 427 emblems? (QuickVet)
well, if my car was a BB i wouldn't care about the numbers on the outside. if you have a 396 you can still say its a 427 and get away with it visually. but a SB and a BB look and sound to diffrent. i think im going to check out having emblems made, then i can choose the font and style.
