Have you checked alignment yet? Is it darty or a steady drift?

IMO, you need more caster. Factory caster setting was in the 1 - 2* range. Try to get it in the 4 - 5 * range. Do you know what the current alignment specs are?

I do not know what the alignment is
that would make it drift from one side to the other?

I agree, sounds like steering box. An alignment is still a good idea, but if it's steady and changing direction depending on the last steering input, sounds like a box thing. The rag joint may also be worth a quick check. Mine was pretty decayed and had a somewhat similar problem.

Edit: alignment would either make it very darty or steady drift to one side in 99.44% of cases

rebuild it, have it rebuilt
upgrade to rack/pinion
switch to borgenson box
it is my understanding, good rebuilt ones are hard to find

You can get them from @GTR1999. Consider finding a core to send, if you go this route, and then you won't have the car off the road for longer than the swap.

But there should be play in the box if this, or the rag joint, are the problem. An alignment with more caster might solve it. Without knowing what your alignment is now, I wouldn't buy anything, at least not before posting a video of your steering gear operating, and perhaps doing a bit of steering box research.
