Default 1/2" ARP wheel studs, 3"

Hi guys,

I'm going to change my wheel studs to 1/2" ARP wheel studs, 3". I changed the fronts to 7/16 ARP but on reflection I should have gone 1/2"

The ARP studs I had fitted to the front are -

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ARP-100-7701 .486 knurl from memory. A machinist fitted them for me so i'm not sure what he did ie drill out further.

Anyhow I want to fit 1/2" 3" long front and back and i'm going to fit them myself. If anyone else has done this then which studs did they use and did they drill out? Also what is the hole size for a standard stud? I have a pillar drill and press now.

Thanks

Aaron.

Are you going to pull the rear stub axles and rebuild the trailing arms ? I think thats the only way to do it.

There's a trick where you drill through the back plate. See this vid.

I use those studs a lot. Most times I machine the length to the size the owner wants to use. Few want 3". You have to check to make sure the knurl length is not longer then the flange thickness and sticks out or you will have rotor issues.

I went to 1/2 inch when a rear rim and tire passed me on the right. My thoughts went to thinking what would have happened if the studs gave out durning a Time Trial.

I went to a machine shop and had them do the rear bearings at the same time.

It wasn't fun. I thought I was hit in the rear. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw nobody. Then the drivers side tire rolled past me. *DEEP SIGN*

Admittedly, I do run bigger than stock tires (335/35X17). So the stress is more than a stock tire and rim.
