Default Intake Manifold Removal Discovery

Hello,

Another question apart of my rookie '69 Corvette endeavors. I removed the intake manifold (Edelbrock C3B) as per suggestion from a friend (had some vacuum leaks and sentiment in the coolant. I found in the back they were gunked up pretty bad with unknown substance. Any ideas on what could have been going on? Any suggestions on cleaning? Thanks!

On a side note, was planning on replacing the gaskets with Fel-Pro 1256. Any concerns or better suggestions for the gaskets. Thanks!

Just calcium and rust buildup......carefully chip it out with a vacuum hose in your hand......the water just sits there in that area...unlike the front that flows water through it......

I urge you to use the 1204 Fel Pro gasket with the heat riser block off......how stock is this setup? Is it the stock carb?

Thanks for that info! Sounds like a plan!

As for the carb, attempting to rebuild the one that came on it. It's a Holley 80508S (which I believe is a Holley 4160). Read through a few online threads and such and hard to understand the differences between 1256, 1204, and 90314.

Thanks again!

They are the same but the 1204 has the center blocked off to keep hot exhaust from getting to the carb which is how GM activated the choke in the early days......if you can live without the choke...block it off....heat at the carb is your enemy.
