I am replacing my factory rear struts rods with Global West adjustable ones on my 75. Figured I would replace the shocks as well. I have spent a couple hours trying to get the top bolt back through. It's not lining up and I have tried everything I can think off. It goes through the outside part of the bracket and through the shock then hits the inside of the other side of the bracket. Unless someone has another idea I'm going to have to drill one of the holes a touch bigger to get the bolt through.
No! Don't drill. There's a serrated sleeve that needs to make full contact on the frame bracket. Install the top half of shock first, then the bottom half after the top bolt is fully inserted.
Does it look like the rubber cushion in the shock is in slightly crooked holding the inner sleeve and an angle which is pulling the bolt down and causing your issue? Put a long bolt in the vise and slide the shock on and "bend" the cushion to align the sleeve straight.
Does the bolt go easily though the shock itself (without it being in the bracket on the car)?
(Stupid question but you're not trying to install the top with the bottom already on )

The top is the one that won't line up. I have tried to do it first (a million times). We will keep trying.

Yes it goes through the shock with no problem. And yes, I will try and bend the cushion a bit like you said.
If you look put the bolt in the bracket without the shock you can plainly see it goes down at an angle. But we will keep on trying.
Picture is on a weird angle but everything should be 90 deg to the bolt holes

I agree. When I try to pull the bottom of the shock towards me to get it aligned, it hits a part of the car below and will only go so far. Crazy!!! We will keep trying in the morning. Thanks!
