I picked up a tranny a year ago,and now ready to try and rebuild this one, with some help of course, never messed with tranny before other than putting one in. It has OG on tag, only need to be for less than 350 hp. It seems to be a good core to start with.

If that is in fact a 307 Cutlass trans......I don't believe it has the Chevy bolt pattern......it has the BOP bolt pattern.
EDIT: Looking again....it appears it has both......
Has your helper done a few transmissions before ? It's so easy to install a lip seal backwards or a spring on the wrong side of valve or valves mixed order not right , check ball in the wrong spot and it only takes about 10 seconds to wipe out a new transmission and getting parts for a 200R4 is getting difficult so not the greatest transmission to learn how to build
I built my own 200 4r many years ago, I question those case markings shown above. wonder if the case is good, but beyond that, the source here in Jax Fl. region for hotrod/HD parts was reasonable in cost the entire project only ran about 400 bux, but of course I did all the work and followed rebuild manuals and mods done according to some parts supplier who knew their **** really well........the trans has been a good one so far....336 rear ratio so 80 mph is about 2500 rpm....not so awful evil.....my car had a 4 speed stick in it, and the trans bolted in no sweat, same driveshaft, cross piece had to be cut on each end leaving aoubt 3-4 inches tied to the frame rails on each side, and the cross piece is highly modified so it's removable with just 4 large bolts, and the exhaust pipe holes were opened on the bottom, and reinforced up top for the obvious strength, so it drops the exhaust pipes about 2 inches down at that spot, so what??? I can drop the entire dual exhaust with crossover pipes clean as a whistle, no sweat.....GOD, I"m lazy.....
I built my own 2004R with lots of upgrades and billet hard parts. It’s capable of handling 800hp/tq and I regularly push 600-700hp through it with a turbo LS on 15lbs. Trans has never skipped a beat and I kept lockup for highway cruising. I will say it’s not a terrible trans to rebuild but there are a few tougher parts. One of the biggest issues are the valve bodies warping which can cause all kids of issues. If you’re going to do the rebuild there is a guy in Long Island who is the “godfather” of 2004Rs and wrote the Bible on rebuilding and modifying them. His company is called Ck performance and he’s a good guy to deal with. He sells everything you would need and can spec out the tranny parts and even offer to build and dyno one
for you.

I built my own as well and was running 715 ponies on a blown 400. It was perfect.
Yes,I have the book,and a lot of information,and considering it’s 4 inches thick,a lot of reading,which I’m not a reader.lol...but,it is very detailed which is great.
