Default Window Motor Replacement

My 82 passenger side window was stuck in the up position. Ive not had any issues with either side and they go up and down at normal speeds. Removed the door panel and I had power to the motor via the switch. I pushed down on the window while simoltaneously pushing down on the window glass, it worked. I greased the tracks and any pivot points I could get to. Put it all back together.... wouldnt move again??? Removed door panel.... I rap on the side of the motor with a screwdriver handle and it works again. During testing, anytime it would stop, I rapped on it with the screwdriver and it instantly starts working....Im thinking it needs a new motor...

Ive been reading on the replacement procedures.... Am I understanding correctly that I DO NOT need to put a bolt in the hole in the gear plate and regulator bracket if the window is fully up? So I can just remove the 3 bolts holding the motor and R&R the motor?

Thanks!

Replacing the motor is the same basic procedure as if you were replacing the regulator. I have ALWAYS put a bolt in and any replacement regulator has a note on it telling you to put a bolt in. There is a spring in the regulator and I don't know for sure which way it will unwind but I wouldn't want my hands in there one way or the other. Why wouldn't you just put the bolt in?

Makes sense... I wonder what guys whose window is stuck in the up position would do... I read the window has to be about 1/2 way down...

I had a pass side motor with same symptoms.
found that adding a thin washer to move motor out solved the issues.
weird but still using it with no issues.

Believe the motor grounds thru the mounting bolts on the door frame. Might be worth cleaning up the door frame under the mounting points to ensure you have a good ground.

If you find that your motor is bad and it's original, consider rebuilding it instead of replacing it. The motors sold today are manufactured offshore and are dubious at best. Check on the C-2 side for a paper by DZ Auto on rebuilding the motors. Jerry

A lot of times...all the motor needs is a good cleaning as the 40-50 year old brown grease that in the gear drive hardens like a rock.........clean and regrease.
