Hi Guys, 1982 crossfire engine 26000 miles. No problem until a few days ago. The engine will start when cold and immediately stall. If I keep pumping the gas it will continue to run until I stop pumping. If I get the rpms up and hold the gas steady it will stall. If I keep pumping and get the engine to warm up a while it will eventually idle. Once I get the engine to run without stalling by warming it up I can drive the car with no problems. Runs drives and accelerates to 80 mph with no hesitation or problems. Starts fine and idles fine when warmed up. Any ideas?
I don’t know anything about crossfire, but sounds like the ecm either isn’t getting the temp signal from the motor (bad sending unit, bad wiring), or ecm is getting the signal, but not acting on it correctly (probably requires a deeper dive into the ecm).
Im sure someone here will have specifics for you, but I’d start by looking at the temp sending unit and wiring.
WW, that's one of the things I was thinking. Update when I got home today I went to start the car it started no problem check it out for half hour Cruise no problem. Turned it off and on no problem. Let it cool down try again no problem. I can see this is going to be an intermittent thing that's going to drive me crazy.
Second update, went to start it 3 hours later and it won't start, it ran for about 10 seconds and then just stalled. Repeatedly stalled when trying to start after that. Went again 3 hours after that and still won't start. I will have to try to find some time to start looking for the problem.

So, are you getting a CEL? If so, have you checked the codes? Do you know what your fuel pressure is right now? It could be a few different things to also include the CTS sensor or the ECM. Do you have a GM service manual? If so, start troubleshooting with that manual. It has a lot of good things in it for fuel related issues.

Hi Tom, thanks for replying. We spoke before, I'm the guy in Canada that found the brand new Renegade and might sell it but that's another thread. Strange thing is there is no cel coming on and yes it is operational. I have to get a pressure gauge. Are yours back in stock yet? Yes I have a manual and will be using it.

If it is doing it stone cold then it is in open loop.......which the ECM is not yet getting feedback.......so my money is on fuel pressure.......CFI/TBI runs fat in open loop....if your pump is on the way out and is pushing, say....11psi...it might not be enough.....or the reg is not calling out enough pressure.
Anyway....start there.
