Default Radiator Info

My 75 started leaking a bit of Anti-freeze lately. After looking at it you can see it's been worked on in the past so I think I'll replace it. I looked at the thread on radiators and has a lot of info (almost too much). Price is a consideration as the car needs a lot of other things as well. Looks like I might go with the Aluminum Champion 3-row ($250). Anyone use this? I would really love one the just drops in with no or very little other work.
Probably not going with electric fans (cost) but is it REALLY worth the extra money and time to add them? Is there another radiator for this money (around $250) that is an exact swap or very close. Thanks all!

I use a champion 3 row.
I’ve had zero issues with mine over the last 7 years.
I kept the mechanical fan. Again, no issues.
is it worth it to go to electrical?
depends on what you want.
It’s extra work and money to save a minuscule(maybe 10?) amount of HP. I can’t really think of any other benefit. The mechanical fan is more than enough for cooling purposes, just not as efficient.

Thanks for the response. I believe that's what I'll do. Was it an easy swap? I was thinking about changing the transmission cooler while I was at it. They don't seem to cost much and figured it can't hurt. Did you change yours?

I got the 4 row cause I have a/c. Electric fans are nice , especially with a/c. But the cost is not just the fans. Also need a high amp alternator. That's another 250 and bigger battery too. Relays etc. I stuck with mechanical fans for those reasons . If I ever go efi I'll have to do all that any way so I'll change then.

I carved out the rubber inserts in the brackets a little bit for a better fit, that was it.
As far as trans coolers go, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it lol. I did not replace mine.
But you are right, they are not expensive, a case of the might as well.

I have A/C as well. Not working at the moment but do plan on getting it up and going. Is the 4 row is a must with A/C?

A/c cindensor is in front of radiator so adds heat when in use, so 4 row adds cooling to make up for it. I think its suppose to be 4 row for a/c.

For the slight increase in cost. I would highly recommend the 4 row Champion. I run one with AC and I have a happy car.

I was talking to a guy at Champion he said (something like) the 4 row was wider and the mechanical fan would have a harder time putting air through it to get to the condenser. That I needed the electric fans as well and go with a 3 row. So you have A/C, a 4 row radiator and a condenser with mechanical fan and all is good? Did you have any fitment issues going with a 4 row? Thanks!

Just got this from Champion today for my 75, will have it installed next week and let you know how close it fit. Think it was 269 delivered.

harder time pulling air? That sounds 🥜…needing electric fans..
i think the biggest aluminum radiator of any brand you can fit is miles ahead of oem. I don’t look at my temperature gauge anymore..

Before I had talked to a Champion Radiator vendor. This time I called Champion (The company). Told him what I had he said the 3 row is what I need. So it will be in Monday. Got a couple guys coming over tomorrow to help me take off the hood then I'll get to work. Thanks for all the help!

FWIW, check the radiator cap that comes with the unit. It might be stamped 0.9 which is 13psi. Determine if that is what you want & here is a good article from Dewitt about cap pressure.
