Lamps didn't go out on my 68 with both doors securely closed. I rotated the headlamp switch and they were still on. So I pulled the bulbs to keep from draining the battery. So my plan is to pull the door jamb switches one at a time and remove the wires from them. If the lights go out then that switch was the one that failed, correct? If disconnecting neither resolves the issue then it just about has to be the headlamp switch? Am I thinking correctly?
Thanks, Kevin
Before pulling the jamb switches, make sure the left side lamp socket bracket is grounded. I had the same problem when mine got accidentally kicked loose.
Make sure the door switches are closing enough. Push them in by hand to test them. My one door has a metal bracket that helps push the switch in farther. Not sure if that is factory installed or not.
Also have a helper and yourself push the both switches plunger all the way in. On my 73, I had to use small rubber pads to get the door ajar switches to be pushed in far enough to turn off the indicator light. Do the easy stuff first!
Doors on my '68 have two switches apiece. Don't know which is which. The Door Ajar feature works, the courtesy lights don't.
Be aware... the rear switch, below the striker on the door... can be accessed via a removable panel in the wheelwell. I opened that up oe day wondering WTH was in there and
found non grommeted, unsleeved wires passing through metal bulkheads. Great recipe for chafing.
