Default Need Help 1973 door lock ****

When I purchased this car, it was missing the door lock **** on the left side. Purchased a new one and was unable to get it on. Since then I have replaced both door panels. Still unable to get the **** on. Replaced the inner door opening mechanism because it looked as if they were using vise grips to operate, it was pretty mangled. Can get it on now, but the door does not want to close as easy as it does with no ****. So when you have to use more pressure to close door completely, the **** pops off. I looked at some of the old threads, nothing helps.
Hopefully someone has encountered this and has a solution they can offer. PLEASE!!!!
BTW - no issues on right side.
Thanks in advance.
Russ.

You are referring to the round **** held on with a small sort of horseshoe shaped clip? The **** has a flat section on one end are you aligning that with the flat on the shaft?
Are you using the plastic washer behind the ****?

Correct, **** is held in place with a retainer clip. Yes, aligned the flat side correctly. Tried it with the plastic washer and without it, no change in result.

I have the same problem 😡

Aftermarket door panel and repro ****, here a photo between the original **** and the repro ****.

Look to the slot, they aren't at the identical position. (left: OEM, right: repro)

Where the locking pin is inserted doesn’t matter. The same for the manual window handle. Even after putting on the plastic round washer, the **** is still loose and not a tight fit. The **** only goon ONE WAY. Try to put the **** on without the clip.

The problem is also the repro door panel. The fit is not the same, I must push the panel harder backwards so that the **** has a grip. That the slot is even further forward has a further influence on the assembly, you have to press the button even more in that it is far enough to insert the clip. That the **** only goes on one way is clear and you can see it.

Default Shoe lace

I used a shoe lace. Worked like a charm.

The problem is also with the repop horseshoe clip. They are much too stiff. I had the same issue with one of mine. Take a couple of vice grips and spread it out a bit. Test fit it without the clip, then put the clip in, use a small amout of lotion to help it slip on, think good thoughts, and install. Best, Paul
