I noticed a difference when comparing the throwout bearing that came with my new McCLeod Street Pro clutch and the one that was in my '71 350 4-speed. The old one has a groove on the inner race that the AIM says should be filled with grease. However, the new bearing has no such groove - it's smooth.
1) Can I use this new bearing without problems or should I try to find one with the groove?
2) If using the McLeod, should I grease the new smooth inner race surface (where the old groove was) when I grease the channel for the clutch fork fingers?
yes i would lightly grease the shaft/ inner. No clue why no groove on new ones but so far no issues with mine at all.. I have no idea if mine was replaced but it had a groove too..
I would also buy another bushing as the one that came with my Mc clutch was magnetic.. USA made OReilly's national brand was non mag.
Glad to hear you've had no problems with your McLeod bearing. I'll use the one that came with the clutch and ensure it's greased up where the AIM specifies even though it doesn't have the groove.
As for the bushing, I've already purchased the non-magnetic one and will install that rather than the one that McLeod included...
