Did spraying WD40 or Deoxit down the shaft work for the volume control and make it louder

First I tried contact cleaner no help, then WD 40 which made a big difference with the contacts working. Now i have power to the radio. Still no sound just order speaker so not sure about the sound issue you have. Will see what happens with the speakers.

Did you plug in the power transistor?

yes, I just got the new speakers from zip now the radio is working. Thanks everyone for your help. Now the process of finding and replacing the speaker behind the tach and reassembling everything.
