Default 82 Starting in accessory position

Hello all, I’m looking at an 82 vette to purchase, but the wiring on it looks done really poorly. I looked at the car today and it runs very well, however the car only starts when you slightly turn the key, and if it you turn it all the way it doesn’t start. Im assuming this is a wiring problem but does anyone know if not?

I would assume it’s the switch. Welcome aboard.

does sound like switch
either broke or slide out of position.

loosen column, drop down to get access to switch.

Probably not a wiring problem. As the others have said, it's likely the switch. What they are not telling you and what you may not know if you're not familiar with C3 Corvettes, is that the switch mounts on top of the steering column near the lower end under the dash. It's connected to the key cylinder by a metal rod. The mount for the switch has slotted holes for adjustment. While this car could have a bad switch, all it might need is a minor adjustment of the switch position.

Good luck,

DC
