Hey Steve, when you do sell it make sure that you tell the new owner to jump on corvette forum and at least let us know who they are. what i gather from your post, is that you had alot of fun having no budget, building it was a blast, and your more than happy with the outcome, but alas, its over. what else is there? proving your original performance claims? let someone else take that risk :smash: and looking back, a no-budget project generally isnt a wise investment. i personally think you should sell it in one of the higher priced cataloges. i cant think of the names but you know the ones. lambos, ferraris, bentlys are usually the cars for sale. you could get alot more for it through that. i wouldnt doubt 150K.

im glad you were able to realize your dream, we should all be so lucky. i wish i could have gotten a ride in it, but i feel like i already have.

I really dont understand why everyone would try and "Put you in your place." (which obviously isnt a bad place to be :D) it seems as though they would be excited that someone is setting out to break records, and do it in a C3 of all cars. Jealousy, envy, and disbelief are the only reasons i can come up with. the people who were disbelievers have already come out and said that they were wrong, and you accomplished your dream. so that leaves envy and jealously.

well i'll shorten this up and just say that i wish you the best of luck with your carrear and your schooling. its apparent that you are pretty damn persistent, so i know your doctorate is on its way.

good luck Steve, Keep in touch.:cheers: :cheers:

P.S. If you decide to part it out i know a good home for that ROD :smash: :lolg: :jester

You know, sometimes I just get too frigging serious about life. Life IS serious, but sometimes one has to stop & smell the roses so to speak. Being able to interject a little humor & comaraderie doesn't hurt either. You guys always put a smile on my face & help me to forget about how tough life can be sometimes. I truly appreciate it. Unfortunately whoever made my brain took their blueprint from a light switch. There are only 2 positions, on & off. When I come over here to visit, it helps me remember that there is such a thing as a dimmer switch! My new goal in life should be to find that middle ground. Kind of like Happy Gilmore. I need to go to my Happy Place! :yesnod:

Steve, pay no attention to the bickering and what not above. Its your freakin car, and it is none of our business if you drive it or sell it or burn it or whatever.

Sounds like Project Insane Asylum is an awesome car. I hope to see it someday in person. (and hear the thing rumble too)

Merlin , are you gonna take it to the Vett Meet at the puyallup fair thats in a couple weeks? If you don't sell it privately really place it in Park Place. THEY WILL PARK IT THERE FOR FREE!! there was a 72 there that had wide body flairs EFI other than that it was just clean and stock. they were asking 35k. I am sure your vett would really make all the exotics look like rice burners. Really if it comes to it give them a shot I am sure they will be very very very intrested.

Honestly Aaron, I'm back to wanting to keep it. I know, you all are saying - damn Merlin, make up your frigging mind! I just can't seem to bring myself to sell it. I've just got too much blood sweat & tears into it. I've got a few offers on the table, but I think I'm going to pass. Write me offline about the Puyalup thing. If the weather is good & I have some free time, it might be fun to go. Since it has rained now for about what, 3 months straight - I'm not too sure of the weather thing, but people sure would get a kick out of seeing the car there! If you want to cruise the car down there with me, let me know.

or Baseketball: "Im doin the happy dance, Im doin the happy dance..."

i read your post about Mike's 69, and basically the people who are bitching now, arent going to quit after you do 260mph, a 9.01 quarter, or throw 1300hp on 93 octane down at the wheels, so f_ck em. Be proud of what you have accomplished! and if anyone talks ill of it, ask, "Do yooooou have a 1000+ hp show winning vette you drive to work?"

my opinion, wait until summer to make any decisions. these are summer cars, and there is nothing like driving a vette in the summer. you dont want to be asking yourself, "Man, i wonder how great it would be to be Driving Merlin right now..." By then you can get the car a little more "Press Famous" rather than "Internet Famous" and demand a larger price if you do decide to sell. so watch Mike's vids a couple more times and cancel that ebay auction! :smash:

Ok Ben, you happy now? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2400753202 :D What the hell was I thinking. How could I even consider selling it? Sometimes I feel like Jeckyll & Hyde. Every time I get frustrated & want to pull the plug - you guys bring me back to reality. It truly is a cool car. I just wish I could get it home & start appreciating it more!!

uhhh yea. :D

i remember i wanted to sell mine twice last Oct. or Nov. i was already telling people at work it was for sale, i had it up in C3s for sale for 15K which would have been a substantial loss, and was ready to put an ad in the paper, but guess who made me re-consider. i'll give you a hint, it rhymes with porvette forum :lolg:

all i can say is ignore the flak as hard as it is, but to get it to stop, or at least to have much less of it, i think your going to have to test its full potential. which its obviously not ready now, but once it is...:steering: but i figgure you want to anyway, because as much as these bench-racers are dying for #s, i bet you want 'em even more.

SUPERMAN LIVES!!!!!! cough cough... I mean Merlin.

I will look into it for you, They have inside parking anyways so if all else fails thats "the best place to park no matter what!" I am pretty sure it's FEB 8th and 9th. As for riding down with you, thats okay. Side note beginning: After 21 years I am finally getting to know my Father, and it's funny, he has a Yellow 70 Convertable Vett. "needs some TLC which I am gonna do as soon as I finish mine" But as for some father son bonding, what better than a corvette show."End Side Note:"

Now I don't think this is the most prestegious of the shows, but heck it's about 2 miles from the shop, And a good place to get a start. Last year there was a pretty good turn out. Merlin does honestly need something on a much higher level to compete. But none of those shows come till summer.

Ben - I have to tell you, the numbers just aren't as important to me any more. What has been really amazing & unexpected is the way people have reacted to the way it looks. I can't tell you how many people on ebay have written to me to find out where I got the "custom body kit". It always gives me great pleausure to tell them the body is all stock except for some add ons like the ground effects & the front bumper. I think the flares is what really throws them for a loop. We did swap some parts for other years, but most of the body is still Corvette. The interior of the car is 90% C-3. The only change was the seats & a few other mods. I really made an effort to keep it stock when I could. No matter what the numbers say, I know how much fun it is to hit the pedal. You really have Mike to thank for this abrupt change of heart. He has helped me bring the fun back to it. Talking to folks like you who just continue to give me positive vibes helps so much as well. I hope to one day be able to meet you & take you for a cruise in the car. It's a shame that I have so little free time & it's such a long way around this great country of ours!!

Aaron, you snuck that one in there!! Superman? FAR from it, I assure you. You really should go with your dad. I'm not even sure I would be able to go, so you should make plans to go with him. I only wish my dad was up here so I could spend time with him. If the weather is good that weekend, I'll do my best to show up!

I was saying I was gonna have to go with my dad. It's no biggie if you take it, But I am sure there will be HUNDREDS of people just drooling over it.
Check your E-mail and you will understand the Superman symbolism.

You keep making 'em, i'll keep praising 'em!
Are you still planing on going to Cruise in IV? If not let me know a time this summer when you will be free amd i'll take vacation up in WA.

Any car that puts out that power at that RPM running that bad, has my dedicated respect. ill be happy if my turbo-project gets me up to 550hp @6500RPM i cant imagine 600+ at 3000!!! but in the end, number are just talk. and talk is cheap. look at the Lotus Elise. 150ish Hp and it hangs with vettes. Until the twisties anyway. then it blows them out of the water!

about all the body stuff, i can understand why everyone thinks its all custom. i mean it looks like an 80-82 vert, which never happened, the daytona louvers and front bumper are about the most aggressive looking mods you can do to a rubber-bumper C3 and add that to a GFX/Flare kit.... i dont know about the hood though.. that could stand to be a lttle "Meaner" looking :lolg:

I'll tell you what I just emailed to Aaron & I quote:

"Just stick to your guns & you will be able to accomplish anything. More than any other reason, that is why I’m going to keep the car. I’ve made my final decision. If I don’t see it through, I will look like a quitter & then all my words mean nothing."

Seeing how much this car affects the younger guys is the real reason I have made my decision. The money isn't the big thing for me. The time is important but I can get past that by having shops do the work. I've always tried to set an example for people & if I give this thing up, every thing I have ever said or stood for looks like complete garbage. For that reason more than any other, I need to see this through all the way to the end. At this point it has nothing to do with numbers any more. It's about setting goals & seeing them through. I set a goal & I need to finish it - ALL the way, not just 95%. 100% or nothing. I'll still do my best to be at the CruiseIn - whether with Merlin or without.

i wanted to quote that so it didnt get over looked by a few of the bench-racers

You have to admit though, it was kind of funny how hard George (Toronto-C3) tried to make merlin look like a flop, and how %90 of the people called him a :troll and made fun of his ignorance.
