I just received a new double roller chain & gear set for my '72 rebuild (Cloyes 9-1100SP). It looks substantially wider than the OEM replacement one that I had in there, and I don't know if it will fit under the stock timing cover. Does anyone know if these wider double rollers are "direct fit's" without needing a different cover or other modifications? The Cloyes supposedly fits 55-96 SBC, but no specific instructions. I haven't installed the cam yet, and don't want to un-package it, if requires any mods or other part changes. Any feeedback appreciated
It will fit just fine with no modifications and that part # is the best bang for the buck there is. The "SP" suffix stands for "Skin Pack" BTW.
Not all "double roller" sets are created the same......the dirt cheap $20 ones do not have a separate sleeve around each pin and the gear rides right on the pin.......so the "double roller" cheapy sets are a double roller by name only......the "double" maens the sleeve and the pin both roll around the gear tooth......
